Original work
Faded Zeitgeist is a work that symbolizes a simpler time, a time that I was in the most peace. The world around me seem to share my overwhelming sense of optimism, life was harmonious from a child’s perspective. Boys caught salamanders, tadpoles and traded rare marbles, while the girls wore pigtails, played hopscotch and double Dutch. The sky was the most beautiful blue, like a sapphire and the sun seemed to radiate around us glistening its warm intense light that I treasured as fine gold. Those days are but a memory, a time I will never see again but I can share the essence of what I’ve experienced in Faded Zeitgeist.
My work is both a journey and a determinative act. Exploring the ubiquitous beauty of art is perpetual, and requires me to be sensitive — to listen, see, and touch — the world around me.
I appropriate and synthesize media for my narrative work. Most work follows a series spanning 5-10 pieces, with narratives ranging from childhood memories to the comical and imaginative.
My materials start with a framed panel. This substrate then houses various mediums. Oil, acrylic, inks, resin, plaster, foam, and newspaper are some of the materials I explore. Sometimes I only use one, yet other works incorporate many.
When I start a work, it forms as an arrangement of ideas or disjointed thoughts. I meditate on these ideas, sketch them as thumbnails, and organize them as a type of map for my work. The beauty and puzzle of my process is that spontaneity always takes me down a different path; the initial vision branches into multiple forms. Each work has its own essence, an energy stamp.
Art has no pinnacle. I find comfort in the notion that I can continue to learn, explore, and marvel in this ubiquitous world of art .
